🍀 Our Move to Ireland: The Dream We Finally Chose

Hello lovely… and welcome 🤍✨

We honestly can’t quite believe we’re finally writing this.

After years of talking about it, dreaming about it, and saying “one day…”
👉 that “one day” has quietly turned into now

💭 The Dream That Never Really Left

Sugar & Shamrocks Diaries started as a little dream sitting quietly in the background of our lives.

Ireland.

Not just as a place… but as a feeling.

  • Slower mornings

  • Cosy kitchens

  • Fresh air through open windows

  • The kind of life where you’re not constantly rushing

The kind of life where you can actually sit down with a cup of tea and drink it while it’s still hot (a concept we’re very much looking forward to ☕😂)

🇮🇪 It Was Always Part of Us

My mum was born in Ireland, with family roots woven through its towns and countryside, and friendships that have always felt like home.

So growing up, Ireland was never just “somewhere else.”

It was:

  • Stories told over cups of tea

  • Familiar accents

  • A place that always felt close, even when we weren’t there

🎶 And Then There Was the Music…

For me, Ireland also came through music.

If you know, you know 👀

  • Boyzone

  • B*Witched

  • Westlife

They were basically the soundtrack to my childhood.

Bedroom singalongs.
Car journey concerts.
Probably a few dramatic performances thrown in for good measure 😂

So in a way, Ireland already felt like part of my story long before we ever lived there.

🌊 The Moment Everything Changed

Then in 2008, when my granddad became ill, we travelled to Donegal for the first time.

And something shifted.

Not in a loud, dramatic way…
But in a quiet, this feels right kind of way.

We fell completely in love with:

  • The wild beaches

  • The endless skies

  • That Atlantic breeze you can’t quite describe

  • The kind of kindness where strangers don’t feel like strangers

And most of all…

👉 The pace of life

Everything felt softer. Slower. Easier.

Like we could finally exhale.

💔 Life Had Other Plans (For a While)

Of course, life doesn’t always move as quickly as our dreams do.

Years passed.

Plans paused.

The idea of moving stayed there… but quietly, in the background.

🤍 The Moment That Changed Everything

When we lost my dad in 2019, something shifted again.

It’s hard to explain, but everything suddenly became clearer.

That gentle but powerful reminder:

👉 Life is short
👉 Time isn’t guaranteed
👉 And “one day” isn’t a plan

🌿 So… We Chose It

And now, here we are.

Choosing it.

Choosing:

  • The slower life

  • The fresh start

  • The unknown (which is slightly terrifying, not going to lie 😂)

📦 The Reality Right Now

We’re not in Ireland just yet.

Right now, it looks more like:

  • Decluttering our entire lives

  • Wondering why we own so much stuff

  • Packing memories into boxes

  • A mix of excitement, stress, and “are we actually doing this??” moments

But also:

👉 Holding onto something really special

The feeling that we’re moving towards the life we’ve always wanted.

🍀 We’re On Our Way

We’re not there yet…

But we’re on our way 🍀

💖 What You’ll Find Here

This space is where we’re sharing it all:

  • The planning chaos

  • The paperwork stress (because there is a lot 😅)

  • Cosy cooking moments

  • Music in the background

  • Little wins

  • Emotional days

  • Big laughs

  • And the quiet magic of watching a dream slowly come to life

✨ This Is More Than a Move

Sugar & Shamrocks Diaries isn’t just about moving countries.

It’s about:

  • Healing

  • Love

  • Courage

  • Fresh starts

  • Creating a life that actually feels like home

💌 If You’re Dreaming Too…

If you’re dreaming of something new…
Or craving a slower, softer kind of life…

Or even if you’re just here for cosy recipes, chats, and a little bit of comfort 🤍

👉 We’re so happy you’re here

✨ This Is Only The Beginning

And something tells us…

👉 This is going to be the best chapter yet

With love,
Sugar & Shamrocks Diaries 🍀
