Honestly, we can’t quite believe we’re finally writing these words.

Sugar & Shamrocks Diaries was born from a little dream that’s been sparkling quietly in our hearts for years — Ireland, slower mornings, salty sea air, cosy kitchens, and a life that feels softer, calmer, and a bit more magical.

This is our space to share that journey.

My mum was born in Ireland, with family roots woven through its towns and countryside, and friendships that have always felt like home. Growing up, Ireland wasn’t just a place — it was a feeling, wrapped in stories, memories, and that warm, nostalgic kind of love.

And for me? It even lived in music. Boyzone, B*Witched and Westlife were the soundtrack to my childhood — bedroom singalongs, car ride concerts, and a sense that Ireland was somehow already part of my story.

Then in 2008, when my granddad became ill, we travelled to Donegal for the first time… and something inside us shifted forever.

We fell completely in love.

The wild beaches.
The endless skies.
The Atlantic breeze.
The kindness of strangers who never felt like strangers.
The slower pace, the cosy food, the feeling of finally being able to exhale.

Ireland stopped being somewhere we visited… and became somewhere we dreamed of belonging.

Life had its own timeline though. Years passed, plans paused, and the dream waited quietly while everything else unfolded.

After losing my dad in 2019, something softened and became clearer all at once. A gentle reminder that life is precious, and that dreams aren’t meant to stay on the “one day” list forever.

So now… we’re choosing it.

We’re decluttering our lives, packing memories into boxes, holding hands through the scary and exciting parts, and preparing to begin again — together.

We’re not there yet.
But we’re on our way 🍀
